About Us

Our Mission

Established in 1903, Jenkintown Day Nursery provides affordable, quality, educational child care to children of working families in our community. To continue the mission of our founders, our fees are on a sliding scale and preference is given to those who truly need our help. Jenkintown Day Nursery is committed to excellence in the education and development of the young child within a safe and loving environment.

Our Philosophy

We believe …

  • children need a safe, comforting environment to help them grow and thrive.
  • children should enjoy learning in a stimulating environment and have the opportunity to learn through play and exploration.
  • children’s independence, self esteem and individual learning styles are nurtured in small classes.
  • family involvement is key to a child’s social, emotional and cognitive development. Our parent programs help our families learn and grow together.
  • diversity and acceptance of others enriches our lives. All children and families should be loved and accepted for who they are.

Our Program Goals

Our goal is to promote each child’s independence, self-esteem, positive attitudes and readiness skills through exposure to a wide variety of activities that enhance his or her social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum is designed to allow children to learn at their own pace and allows us to meet their individual needs. Special programs, including art, music, movement and class trips enhance learning.

We follow the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards throughout our curriculum. We believe that parents and staff need to work together to enhance the quality of each child’s experience at Jenkintown Day Nursery. We offer Parent Programs throughout the year as well as Parenting Workshops.

Our Staff

Our Director is Rukiya Davis-Martin. Our caring, professional staff includes experienced teachers with degrees in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Lead teachers have a minimum of a Child Development Associate credential. We have a licensed social worker who works with the staff and parents. A nurse practitioner makes regular visits to help keep the children healthy. All of our staff members are trained in first aid and CPR and have at least 27 hours of professional development annually.
